WorkFlex in your AI assistant: introducing the WorkFlex MCP

Ask about trips, submit requests and approve steps from Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants. The WorkFlex MCP brings cross-border compliance into the tools your teams already use.

WorkFlex MCP connecting AI assistants to WorkFlex

AI assistants have become part of the working day. People use them to draft emails, summarise documents and plan their week. Until now, cross-border compliance sat outside that flow. To check a trip, submit a request or pull a number for a report, you had to leave the conversation, log in to WorkFlex and come back.

The WorkFlex MCP changes that. It connects your AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to your WorkFlex account. You can ask a question in plain language, or ask your assistant to act for you, and it works directly with WorkFlex: the same compliance engine, the same approval flows, the same permissions.

What is the WorkFlex MCP?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that AI assistants use to work with business software. Instead of copying information from WorkFlex into a chat, your assistant gets a direct, secure connection to your account. It can look up trips and compliance results and carry out tasks for you, but only the ones your WorkFlex role already allows.

Behind the conversation, nothing about WorkFlex changes. Our compliance engine still assesses every trip, every request still runs through your approval flow, and your permissions still decide what you see. You simply reach WorkFlex from where you already work.

What you can do with it

What's available to you depends on your WorkFlex role.

Business trips

  • Check what a trip requires before you travel: compliance questions, work locations, approval steps and overlapping trips

  • Submit a business trip for compliance assessment and approval, or finish a draft

  • Reschedule or cancel a trip

  • See a trip's compliance summary, open actions, documents and comments

  • Approve or reject the approval steps assigned to you

Try asking: "I'm going to Vienna from 12 to 14 October for a client workshop. What do I need, and can you submit the trip?"

Work from anywhere

  • Check what a request to a specific destination requires

  • Submit, reschedule or cancel a work from anywhere request

  • See how many days you have used, pending and remaining

  • Fill in missing information and mark to-dos as done

Try asking: "How many work from anywhere days do I have left this year?"

Assignments

  • View assignments, their status and approval workflow

  • Ask questions about assignment documents

Try asking: "Where does the approval for Anna's assignment to Singapore stand?"

Reporting, people and company

  • Break down trips and work from anywhere requests by destination, home or payroll country, purpose, employee, manager or month, without exporting a single spreadsheet

  • See how many trips need attention

  • Search employees, update their details and invite new employees

Try asking: "Which trips to Switzerland from last quarter still need attention? Group them by manager."

You stay in control

Letting AI act inside a compliance system raises a fair question: who has the final say? You do.

  • Preview before every change. Before anything is created, changed, cancelled or approved, your assistant shows you what will happen. Nothing is submitted until you confirm.

  • Your role, nothing more. The MCP never grants more access than you already have. Employees see and manage their own trips. Managers see their team's requests and the approval steps assigned to them. HR sees the people they cover, and travel assistants manage trips for the people they look after.

  • A second layer in your assistant. In Claude, you decide per tool whether it runs automatically, needs your approval each time or is switched off. ChatGPT asks you to confirm write actions before they run.

  • You sign in yourself. The first connection ends on a WorkFlex confirmation page. It names the assistant, lists what it will be able to look up and change, and shows which account it connects as. Click Cancel and nothing is granted.

Good to know

  • WorkFlex doesn't book flights or hotels. Submitting a trip registers it for compliance assessment and approval. Keep booking in your usual travel tool.

  • Some details can only be completed in WorkFlex. If a trip needs a salary, a travel document number or a file upload, your assistant tells you and leaves that part for you to finish in the platform. It handles everything else.

  • Assignments are view-only. For assignments, the MCP currently offers read access and questions about documents.

Which AI assistants are supported?

  • Claude (web, desktop and Claude Code)

  • ChatGPT (web, desktop and CLI)

  • Cursor, VS Code and any other tool that supports remote MCP with sign-in

On company plans, an admin may need to add or allow the WorkFlex connector for your organisation first. In ChatGPT, custom connectors need a Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise plan with developer mode turned on.
