WorkFlex Index: international assignments are becoming ever more complex
The WorkFlex Cross-Border Index shows how changing visa rules, national reporting portals and security risks are making international assignments harder for industrial companies.

MM Logistik reports on the WorkFlex Cross-Border Index: international assignments are getting harder to run for industrial companies, as geopolitics and bureaucracy pile on top of each other.
The index draws on 1.86 million assessed working days abroad from more than 500 companies across 193 countries. Visa requirements alone change more than 250 times a month, employers face 27 separate national reporting portals, and 31 countries apply particularly demanding registration procedures.
The interplay is the problem
WorkFlex co-founder Pieter Manden explains that the difficulty for employers lies less in any single rule than in how the different requirements interact: visas and work permits, posting notifications, social security and labour law each come with their own procedures, portals and deadlines.
For machinery and plant manufacturers this quickly becomes an operational issue. Installing a machine abroad, commissioning a plant or sending a service technician to a customer at short notice all trigger obligations in several jurisdictions, even for short stays within Europe.
